How to Add a Link in Your Instagram Bio (Step-by-Step, 2026)
Where to add a profile link in Instagram, how to check it works, and when a link-in-bio page helps you organize several destinations.
This is the single most common question in the "link in bio" category, so here's the direct answer first, then the part most guides skip: what to actually put there.
Adding the link (mobile app)
- 1. Open Instagram and go to your profile.
- 2. Tap Edit profile.
- 3. Tap the Website (or "Links") field.
- 4. Paste your URL and tap Done, then Save.
Instagram's profile-link options and labels can vary by account and app version. If you see Links, use Add external link; if you see a Website field, paste the URL there. Open your profile after saving and tap the link to confirm it reaches the right page.
Adding it from desktop
Go to your profile on instagram.com, click Edit profile, paste the URL into the Website field, and click Submit. Same field, same result.
Why one raw link usually isn't enough
Instagram may let you list several profile links, but a set of raw URLs gives little context. If you have a shop, new video, newsletter, and booking page, a link-in-bio page lets you explain and order them. Then you can update that page without changing your profile link each time. We cover the idea in What Is a Link in Bio?
What to put in that field today
If you don't have a page yet, the fastest path is a free one:
- 1. Claim your username at knit.bio. Your page lives at knit.bio/yourname, so it matches your handle.
- 2. Pick a template from the template library and add your most important links. Native selling requires a store plan.
- 3. Copy the page URL and paste it into Instagram's Website field, exactly like above.
From then on, update your knit.bio page whenever you need to. The Instagram field never needs to change again. Start free, or read the full beginner's guide first.
A few things people get stuck on
- Story link stickers are separate. They let you add a clickable link to an individual Story for 24 hours. They're useful, but they don't replace the permanent bio link on your profile.
- Broadcast channels and DMs can carry links too. Neither is visible on your profile like a bio link, which remains your most prominent link.
- Check after saving. Open your profile as a visitor and tap the link. If the preview looks old, the destination app may be showing a cached image or title.
